Insulator assemblies for high-voltage overhead transmission lines serve as the mechanical barrier between live conductors and the supporting tower. The core component of these assemblies is the insulator, typically crafted from porcelain, glass, or composite materials. The fittings, referred to as connecting elements in technical parlance, ensure the mechanical cohesion of all components.
Tension clamps secure conductors to tension strings, providing the necessary mechanical resistance. Two types of tension clamps are distinguished: Disconnectable variants, such as wedge tension clamps, bolted type tension clamps, and helical dead ends with strain thimbles, offer adjustability. Compression dead end clamps, on the other hand, form permanent connections and cannot be reopened for sag or tension adjustments.
Suspension clamps support and link conductors to insulator assemblies. Parallel groove clamps establish electrical continuity between two conductors, primarily employed in jumper loops alongside wedge-type tension clamps.
