EARTH WIRE FITTINGS
Grounding wires serve to protect overhead power lines from earth-related hazards and lightning strikes. This grounded system effectively dissipates high-energy surges, ensuring minimal disruption to the power delivery network. To maximize protection levels, earth wires should be affixed at the highest points of support structures. Typically composed of steel-coated wires such as ACS or commonly used ACSR conductors.
Suspension points often employ oscillating suspension clamps, mounted onto C-brackets, allowing controlled movement and safeguarding against vibration. This system offers superior vibration protection compared to rigid fastening methods by permitting controlled freedom of movement, thus preventing damage.
C-bracket supports, as listed in the table, offer specialized options such as enhanced degrees of movement at the hinge connection, exceeding 200° for the suspension clamp. Additionally, full vertical orientation of the clamp is achievable. Mounting base plates for C-brackets can be customized to fit specific tower mounting plates, including types with central plates.
For earth wire suspension and tension brackets, various options exist, with or without earth clamps. In cases where only one conductor needs clamping, the opposite groove can accommodate a filler piece. Bracket attachments do not include screws as standard but can be supplied separately once attachment details are confirmed. Different clamp bore sizes and spacings are available, along with corresponding screw lengths and sizes. Tension brackets can also be customized to meet specific application requirements.
Insulating accessories for suspension and tension sets facilitate measurement of earthing resistance, which must then be grounded to the support structure using flexible connections. Earth bonding accessories are utilized to ensure low electrical resistance of the earth grounding system, bonding tension and suspension brackets to the tower structure. Various flexible earth bonds are available to accommodate different needs.
Warning markers are installed on ground wires to alert low-flying aircraft of elevated obstacles, typically positioned along routes near airports and elevated spans on the uppermost earth wire cable. Consisting of two hemispheres attached to the ground wire via bolted clamps, these markers have a diameter of 600 mm, with additional details available upon request. They can be supplied in three UV and ozone-resistant colors: red, orange, and white, or alternating white/orange or white/red.
Reflective aircraft warning markers feature a special reflective foil to significantly enhance visibility, particularly during dawn and night hours. Clamping systems enable easy installation, ensuring rapid and safe assembly from a cable trolley or helicopter. Designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions, these markers are equipped with clamps suitable for all conductor types, featuring elastomer inserts to protect the conductor. The plastic body’s UV resistance ensures color retention for many years.
